Résumé
'Objective.' We evaluated associations among adverse life events, eating-disorder subtypes, and eating and psychiatric symptom severities in eating-disordered women. 'Method.' Twenty-eight women with Anorexia Nervosa (AN: 14 with AN restricting type and 14 with AN binge-eating/purging type) and 22 women with bulimic eating syndromes participated in this study. Semistructured interviews and self-report measures were used to assess eating symptoms, comorbid psychiatric symptoms, and experiences of adverse life events. ' Results.' Women with Bulimia reported experiencing more traumatic events than did women with Anorexia binge-eating/purging type. Experiences of trauma were not associated with more severe eating symptoms but with increased psychiatric comorbidity including Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Substance Abuse, Dysthymia, Panic and Specific Phobia. 'Discussion.' Our findings support the notion that traumatic events may be best conceptualized as a non-specific risk factor in eating-disorder development.
